The “Off-Spring” series is a celebration of the creative power of the hybrid, a power that is a great deal more than the sum of its parts. The series is an invitation to our performers to explore peripheral spaces far removed from the centre of things and to fathom the artistic potential of the in-between and the fuzzy edges (margins, fringes). The interpreters and composers locking antlers at these locations go far beyond conventional genre boundaries. The sheer range of offerings calls upon audiences to open their ears, hearts and minds to the hitherto unheard, to approaches that are radically personal and challengingly unconventional. But is this not precisely the cast of mind with which we should encounter the new generation of musicians, the “offspring” in the true sense of the word?
