Lied is alive. Lieder are versatile, traditional and contemporary. Text and music merge into a reduced, intimate and yet powerful form. The essence of our social existence is negotiated with a voice. Lieder are based on the central aspects of our being human: love and loss, life and death, reality and vision, subject and object, Me and you. Lieder are mirrors of the current time and mediators of the past. Lieder are the present.
Heidelberg is the Lied city of Europe: from »Codex Manesse« to the collection »Des Knaben Wunderhorn« to German Hip Hop, from Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms to Joseph von Eichendorff and Friedrich Hölderlin. Heidelberg has always been an inspiration for all Lied makers. This heritage must not only be presented at an excellent level and thus preserved, it must also be ensured that the Lied can develop in the future. So that the Lied can set impulses.
