Chamber music is the most concentrated form of music-making. Intimate in scale, it requires of the performers involved direct and intensive exchange both in rehearsal and in concert. Chamber music has always been an ideal medium for progress and innovation because the supple give-and-take between the instruments offers composers and performers the scope they require for experimentation. Every year, Igor Levit, the artistic director of the Academy and the mastermind behind the chamber music festival »Standpunkte«, does his best to make that scope as broad as possible. His policy of bringing together the upcoming musicians from the Chamber Music Academy with renowned colleagues for the »Standpunkte« concerts is more than an exercise in musical democracy.
