Conventional Lied recitals have a hard time of it with audiences, especially if the singers in question are not famous enough to fill the hall by name alone. And big names like that you can count on the fingers of one hand. Accordingly – and understandably – most concert organisers have no song recitals featuring young singers in their programmes. But if you don’t give young Lied singers a platform, how can the song recital possibly survive? This is why Heidelberger Frühling sees it as its mission to present recitals with upcoming singers in the main body of the programme. In the past, singers like Annette Dasch, Hanna Elisabeth Müller and Jonas Kaufmann all had recitals of their own in Heidelberg before they really made the big time. And the Rising Stars of the 2018 festival are definitely worth discovering too!
