From an international pool of approximately 250 young artists, 13 singers and pianists have qualified for the 2025/26 class of the Liedakademie under the artistic direction of Thomas Hampson.
Over the course of the season, from October 2025 to June 2026, the scholarship recipients gathered in Heidelberg for four modules. In master classes with Thomas Hampson and art song pianist Susan Manoff—some of which were open to the public and livestreamed—they worked intensively on vocal technique, art song interpretation, and performance. Over the course of the year, they developed a diverse lieder repertoire, refined their artistic profiles, and gained valuable stage experience. In addition, they organized their own re:start concerts with free admission in various Heidelberg neighborhoods, thereby introducing the lieder to a diverse audience.
As both the highlight and the culmination of the academic year, the young artists performed at the Liedfestival’s closing concert on the main stage of the Konzerthaus Stadthalle Heidelberg. There, they presented the results of their work and impressively demonstrated the artistic progress they had made during the academic year.
