That was the 2026 Liedfestival!
250 years after the Declaration of Independence, the 2026 Liedfestival turned its attention to the United States—and highlighted this theme with special program days titled “American Song” and “Schubert’s American Dream.” At the same time, the festival celebrated 20 years of Thomas Hampson’s work with young talent in Heidelberg.
Renowned artists met up with the next generation of art song singers: As part of the Liedakademie and the debut concerts, the stage belonged entirely to the young voices. At several re:start concerts held in Heidelberg’s neighborhoods, audiences could also discover art song performances with free admission.
The next edition of the Liedfestival is scheduled to take place from June 5 to 13, 2027. The programme will be released in February 2027.
