How to support us

»For me, songs are the key to understanding culture and history. They are prisms through which we can get to know the historical period in which they were written in all its facets, often better than in any history book.«
— Thomas Hampson

Do you relish a change of perspective? If so, your donation can help innovative artists to devise and stage programme formats untrammelled by conventions, genres and traditions. Placing the Lied in new contexts inevitably provides food for thought. By supporting us, you can help make the Heidelberg Song Centre a meeting point for international productions involving renowned partners from the realms of dance, music theatre and literature. The spin-off will be new compositions for an old genre and programmes that explore the classical song repertory in depth to fully appreciate what it has to tell us, both musically and textually.

Support the International Song Centre by becoming a patron for innovation with regular annual donations as Silver Patron (EUR 7.500), Bronze Patron (EUR 3.500) or Classic Patron (EUR 2.500).

the upcoming generation

»Song is the heart of all music«
— Alfred Brendel

Encouraging young artists is one of the core missions of the Song Centre – not only singers, but also pianists and stage directors, poets and composers. We are constantly on the look-out for interesting young creatives with convincing ideas, inspiring visions and the will to cross frontiers and explore undiscovered country.
With your help, young talents can obtain a scholarship for Thomas Hampson’s Lied Academy, advertise their prowess at the »Das Lied« song competition run by Thomas Quasthoff, or realise a project in Heidelberg.

»Singing is the native language of all people«
— Yehudi Menuhin

The song combines words and music. Songs can be analysed, but above all they must be sung; and to be sung they have to be discovered. The Heidelberg Song Centre is looking for tomorrow’s Lied fans. Help us work out offerings for all ages and all levels of society!

You can support workshops from nursery school upwards, so that the very youngest can gain a feeling for what makes the great song tradition so treasurable. You can help bring about events for adolescents that seek contemporary and realistic ways of persuading young people to give the traditional art song a hearing. And you can promote a listeners’ academy for adults as a community dedicated to the study and appreciation of songs from all periods and cultures.

»The lied is, for me, the most refined of the vocal arts, offering singers and audiences the most soulful, nuanced, and personal form of expression there is«
— Renée Fleming

The Lied needs audiences and performers in equal measure. In a concert both gel into a unity. One is unthinkable without the other. Song recitals do not have an easy time of it. To some extent, they may, in fact, have lost their original audiences. Your donation can help organise concerts featuring both the big stars and young singers whose careers are taking wing – concerts that centre-stage the diversity of the song repertoire, from the art song (with orchestra, piano or chamber ensemble) all the way to folk songs, pop songs, chansons or rap.

Support the projects of the International Song Centre and you will be helping to make the Lied Academy a place where international singing careers get off the ground. Support Das Lied, one of the most prestigious song competitions. Support unique productions uniting all the arts for the greater glory of the Lied. Contribute to the establishment of a comprehensive network linking the most significant institutions dedicated to the cultivation, exploration, communication and presentation of poetry in music.

The establishment of the International Song Centre will make Heidelberg the hub of an international song network, a location where training and encouragement for young singers, an exciting concert programme and an internationally renowned song competition are joined by forward-looking format design, communicative stratagems and productions in which the art song engages in a creative dialogue with the other arts.

Why not become a main partner for the Heidelberg Song Centre? That way, you can become a key figure making Heidelberg as place where the future of the art song is assured as a living entity, with all the transformations it has gone through from the earliest beginnings to the present day.
