In the second series, Gerhaher and Huber as well as the Swedish soprano Camilla Tilling dedicate themselves to the song cycle »Myrthen«, which originates from Schumann’s Liederjahr 1840. It was in this year that he composed most of his work for voice and piano. Conceived as a wedding present for his bride Clara Wieck, whose 200th birthday is celebrated in 2019, Schumann set to music poems by nine different poets in »Myrthen« and is »probably one of the most beautiful gifts ever made to a loved one«, as Christian Gerhaher writes. As such, it was presented to Clara Schumann on 12 September 1840 in a specially produced splendid edition by Robert Schumann and has been one of the great song cycles of music ever since. »Myrthen« will be released on 11 October 2019. For the album, Christian Gerhaher is awarded with an OPUS Klassik 2019 as singer of the year.
