BETRIEBSWERK

The BETRIEBSWERK Heidelberg is a project that combines both historical significance and modern use. Originally built in 1920 as one of the most modern railroad operating facilities, the site was abandoned in the 1990s and left to decay for years. Since 2017, the site has been revitalized and transformed into a multifunctional center that combines work, culture, social interaction and learning.
The conversion work will concentrate on the approximately 16,500 m² of gross floor space, which is divided between the existing historic brick buildings and modern new buildings. The aim is to preserve the old industrial architecture, but at the same time to create new uses that both meet modern requirements and preserve the historical atmosphere of the BETRIEBSWERK.
The utilization concept envisages a mixture of office space, coworking areas, workshops, communal areas and event rooms. Particularly noteworthy is the area that serves as a cultural beacon, with event rooms for concerts, exhibitions and seminars.
