Fischer-Dieskau 100
Benjamin Appl. James Baillieu
A Life in Song

Three weeks before Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau's death in spring 2012, Benjamin Appl visited his house on Lake Starnberg for a lesson. The greatest Lied-singer of the 20th century was not only a role model and mentor to the Regensburg baritone, who had previously studied in New York and London, but also a close friend. During the research for his sounding homage to the 100th anniversary, Appl was able to sift through countless private documents from the estate. The result is a portrait that is as personal as it is multifaceted. Using songs, recitations and narrated events, it traces the stages in the life of this exceptional artist.
