Cuarteto Casals. Eckart Runge
Schubert's Most Beautiful

The renowned and highly decorated Cuarteto Casals can look back on over 25 years of success. It brings Spanish music from home to Heidelberg and has Schubert's most beautiful works in its luggage. While Joaquín Turina's works, rooted in Andalusian folklore, were as popular then as they are today, the elegant music of the Basque Juan Crisóstomo Arriagas has yet to be discovered. For the crowning finale, the quartet invites cellist Eckart Runge, a long-time member of the Artemis Quartet, to the stage: if Schubert had foreseen the imminent end of his life, the string quintet with its heavenly melodies of the "Liberated Time", composed two months before his death, would probably have been his personal farewell work.

There will be an introduction to Schubert's String Quintet at the DAI Heidelberg on 9 March 2025 at 11:00. Further information and tickets can be found here.
