Three exquisite musicians, all in their early thirties and already highly decorated, have come together to form a piano trio for this evening. Tobias Feldmann became one of the youngest professors in Germany at the age of 26, was successful at the most important violin competitions and was guest concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Romanian cellist Andrei Ioniță is also carving out a career for himself in Europe's top concert halls, as is Lyon-born pianist Nathalia Milstein, who comes from a traditional Russian family of musicians - her grandfather taught at the Moscow Conservatory. Its founder, Nikolai Rubinstein, created an opulent monument to Peter I Tchaikovsky with his pathetic piano trio. The rest of the programme also has biographical references: with a trio each by Ioniță's teacher Dan Dediu and his Romanian compatriot George Enescu.
