Gabriela Montero
Charly Chaplin's "The Immigrant"

In 2018, Gabriela Montero received the Heidelberger Frühling Music Prize for her passionate commitment as a music mediator, social bridge builder and for her great improvisations. As a guest artist at "Frühling", she is always warmly welcomed by her audience. But the Venezuelan, who has lived far away from her crisis-ridden homeland for many years, knows what it is like to be a stranger only too well and has dedicated a recital to this feeling. We will hear the works of three Russians whose biographies were also shaped by a life in exile: the grotesque laughter of Prokofiev, the sober musical language of Stravinsky and the music of the misunderstood Rachmaninov, whose melodies were all too often sold off. They will lead into the Chaplin silent film "The Immigrant", to which Montero will improvise live.

The concert ends with a live improvisation to the silent film "The Immigrant" by Charly Chaplin.

This concert will be followed by a talk with the artists and Anselm Cybinski in the Festivalzentrum.
