Hausbesetzung 1

The Swedish ensemble's first programme is dominated by glances across the Atlantic: what currently seems more politically topical than ever was also immensely fruitful in the 20th century in the musical field. Benjamin Britten, the brilliant man from the English south-east, went to the USA for three years in 1939, while composers from the other side of the ocean continued to keep a very close eye on what was happening in old Europe. One of the most important compositional developments of the late century was the permeability of the spheres of "pop" and "classical" in the wake of the minimal music of Steve Reich or Philip Glass. In this kaleidoscopic programme, star saxophonist Jess Gillam and Hugo Ticciati's ensemble demonstrate just how beautiful this can sound.
