Bryan Benner is a bridge builder between song cultures, guitarist, singer and songwriter as well as the formative head of The Erlkings, a popular band in Heidelberg and on international stages. His trademark: With modern tonal language and English translations, he lends new perspectives and forms of expression to masterpieces by Schubert and Schumann.
Bryan Benner opens up his artistic workshop in this hands-on workshop: Participants are invited to rethink well-known songs together. It's not just about translating a song text into English - the song is creatively developed and given a new form using the participants' own words. The result is a unique, collaborative song poem that will be presented on stage by Bryan Benner and other artists in the subsequent collective concert.
The hands-on workshop is part of the "Schubert's American Dream" theme day, which opens an imaginary window into the composer's world of thought on the first Sunday of the festival. On his deathbed, Franz Schubert dreams himself away to America with the Lederstrumpf novels by James Fenimore Cooper - in search of freedom, individual self-determination and that better world that he repeatedly sketches musically in his songs.
The ticket also entitles the holder to enter the subsequent collective concert at 4.30 pm, in which the song-poem developed in the workshop will be presented on stage by Bryan Benner and other artists.
