Liedakademie
Workshop and Public Master Class 2
American Song - Home(s) in Lied

In this phase of the Liedakademie 's work, the repertoire focus is on the "American Song". In American Song, it becomes particularly clear how songs become laboratories of belonging, participation and rootedness.

Thomas Hampson works together with Liedakademie scholarship holders on a curated selection. Günter Leypoldt adds political and cultural-historical perspectives to the work.

The workshop and master class are part of the theme day “American Song — Home(s) in Song,” which emerged from a collaboration with the Collaborative Research Center “Home(s)” at Heidelberg University and creates a space for reflection and listening where questions of home and musical self-identification in the United States are discussed.

If you want to delve deeper into the world of "American Song", visit the Song of America website, a digital project of the Hampsong Foundation curated by Thomas Hampson, which provides a comprehensive archive of American Song and its cultural background.
