Markus Uhl
Reversio – Return

For his farewell to the Heidelberger Frühling, Markus Uhl, who has moved to the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne as professor of organ, takes the festival theme "Back Forward" at its word. "Reversio, reversionis (f)" is the title of the highly esteemed musician's programme as district cantor at the Jesuit Church in Heidelberg, which – symbolically? – with phenomena of return and return. The passacaglia, the sequence of variations over a retained bass scheme, suggests itself as a musical form. Bach and Reger are represented with important examples; Johann Jakob Froberger's "Fantasie" is based on the same principle. Repetition and rotation are not only used to describe movement in Zsigmond Szathmáry's "Magic Cube".
