Musical Sunday
Schubert: String Quintet in C major

Tickets will soon be available at the DAI Heidelberg.
€ 11.90 / 9.90 (reduced) / 6.90 (DAI members)

If Schubert had foreseen the imminent end of his life, the String Quintet, written two months before his death, with its heavenly melodies of the "Liberated Time" would probably have been his personal farewell work. Endlessly stretched melodic arcs, the layering of legato lines and melodies that never end define the first movement, which, with its heavenly length, takes up about a third of the playing time of the entire composition. In the famous second movement, the stormy middle section in F minor is surrounded by outer sections with sighing motifs over a barely moving static sound surface in E major. This event will focus on what this work and the circumstances of its creation have to do with "Liberated Time".

At Musical Sunday at the DAI Heidelberg, two music enthusiasts will have their say and dive deep into the subject matter with the audience: Marcus Imbsweiler publishes novels, including stories about composers; Timo Jouko Herrmann is a composer, violinist and guest conductor of the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra.

Schubert's String Quintet in C major can be heard in the following concert at the Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestival:
