Nikola Hillebrand is not only perfectly suited to Richard Strauss' opera roles, such as Sophie in "Der Rosenkavalier" and Zdenka in "Arabella", but also his song repertoire, as you can see for yourself at this recital. The soprano, who won the Heidelberger Frühling "Das Lied" competition in 2019, is now bringing her very personal selection of Strauss songs to the Liedfestival together with her piano partner Alexander Fleischer: Their magic unfolds in the fine interweaving of voice and richly tonal piano writing and in the sweeping melodic arcs. And in his songs, as in his operas, Richard Strauss shows himself to be an extraordinarily profound observer of female emotional worlds.
