Opening Concert for the Anniversary Year

Klaus Mäkelä was only 24 years old when he made his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam in September 2020 - at the time, the Finnish shooting star was already working as head of the Oslo Philharmonic. Two years later, it was announced that Mäkelä would take over the top Dutch orchestra from September 2027 (and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the same time). Mäkelä and the RCO are coming to Heidelberg with Mahler's enigmatic, multi-layered Seventh, about which the composer once said meaningfully: "It is my best work and predominantly cheerful in character". It would be hard to imagine a more powerful introduction to 30 years of Heidelberger Frühling!
