Shirley Brill. Philharmonisches Orchester Heidelberg. Mino Marani
Appassionato

Farewell sounds at the 6th Philharmonic Concert of the Theater and Orchester Heidelberg with the Israeli clarinettist Shirley Brill and the new General Music Director Mino Marani: shortly before his death in 1894, Johannes Brahms wrote two sonatas for clarinet and piano. They are, so to speak, a farewell to his instrumental compositions. Luciano Berio arranged the first of the two sonatas, and for him the sound is in the foreground: large orchestra instead of chamber music. The 10th Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich is the first major composition after the death of the Russian dictator Josef Stalin. First performed in 1953, the work is seen as a reckoning with the Stalin regime.
