Schubert Day
On 26 March 1828, the first anniversary of Beethoven's death, Franz Schubert gave the first public concert of his own works in the hall of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, which was also to remain the only one. The programme included - as here - his song "Auf dem Strom", accompanied by horn and piano, and the great Piano Trio in E flat major D 929, as well as other songs and chamber music works. The "participation of the most celebrated local artists" was announced, which also applies to the musicians at this concert with a whole host of "Frühling" artists led by pianist Lukas Sternath. Included is the late E flat major Piano Trio, which contains some of Schubert's most heavenly lengths.
