Trio Zimbalist

"What an astonishingly successful debut," raved the Gramophone Magazine critic when the Zimbalist Trio presented its first CD with exactly this programme two years ago. The three graduates of the famous Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia - whose former director Efrem Zimbalist they bear in their name – begin with the dramatic piano trio by Mieczysław Weinberg. It deals with the trauma of the Polish composer, who lost his entire family in the Holocaust. The first piano trio by Lera Auerbach, which she completed in 1991 immediately after fleeing the Soviet Union, is just as personally involved. Dvořák's famous "Dumky" Trio sounds all the more liberated after these harrowing musical journeys.
