USA Day: Concert and Reading
4x4 Frauenchor. Barley. Festivalcampus
Bring Me a Dream

Bring Me a Dream heißt das heiter-nachdenklich-visionäre Programm des vielfach ausgezeichneten Frauenchors 4×4 der Pädagogischen Hochschule Heidelberg – und eröffnet einen Nachmittag, der sich in drei sehr unterschiedliche, miteinander verschränkte Teile gliedert.

Freedom and Its Discontents: An American Reckoning is a performative reading by Canadian playwright and author Jonathan Garfinkel. In his work, he juxtaposes the American promise of freedom with the experiences, ruptures and struggles of marginalized voices from the past to the present. Starting from the Constitution of the United States as an idealistic promise, an arc of famous literary texts and political speeches unfolds, revealing the fragility of democratic orders.

For the third part of the afternoon, the Festivalcampus and improvisation artist Matthew Barley will prepare their own version of "In C", the groundbreaking masterpiece of minimal music in which composer Terry Riley created a fascinating and intuitively comprehensible musical model of democratic co-determination in 1964.

The event is part of the USA Day, with which the Heidelberger Frühling, together with the German-American Institute Heidelberg, which will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2026, is taking a reflective look at the United States - on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the German-American Institute. Anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence. Under the title "The Other 50 %", words and sounds complement each other in an exciting reflection on the ideals and realities of a country whose politics and culture have always been an indispensable point of reference since 1945, especially when viewed from Germany.

Also bookable in the USA Pass (valid for all four events on this day)
