Voces Suaves (Gentle Voices) is the name of the vocal ensemble founded twelve years ago and emerging from the renowned Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, which is joining forces here with the accomplished French early-music ensemble Gli Incogniti. The centerpiece of their programme is the very special Passion cantata cycle “Membra Jesu Nostri” by the Baroque composer Dietrich Buxtehude, which consists of seven mystical meditations on the limbs of the Crucified One—beginning with his feet and extending to his heart and head. Two of his innovative trio sonatas further demonstrate the profound influence Buxtehude had on subsequent composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach.
