VOCES8

"Since 2005, they have achieved the ideal balance between perfection and liveliness, between humility before the music and a whimsical stage show." This is how SWR music editor Doris Blaich recently outlined the singular class of VOCES8, who are now making their first guest appearance in Heidelberg in years. The Brits enjoy their special status in the a cappella scene not only because of their enchanting sound. Equally fascinating is their creativity in synthesizing old and new, sacred and secular sounds. VOCES8's art is based on an approach that is "mediating" in the best sense of the word: the ensemble's artistic director and countertenor, Barnaby Smith, likes to say that anyone who attends their concerts should have laughed and cried at least once afterwards. The hymn of the "Voces" to love in the face of farewell and eternity will also traverse all emotional regions.
