Last year was the first time the Chamber Music Academy programmed masterclasses with artistic director Igor Levit and his co-instructors. It was a roaring success. The special frisson created by witnessing an interpretation take shape from right up close made itself felt both on the stage and in the auditorium. This year there are more close musical encounters of the right kind to be anticipated, both in concerts and in the masterclasses. The most interesting and promising young musicians of their generation have been hand-picked to attend, selected in conjunction with a high-power network of sources: foundations, agents, competitions like TONALi, the Steinway Prizewinner Network, the culture committee of the Confederation of German Industry and other partner networks. The audience will have the opportunity to listen in on rehearsals and experience just how incredibly sensitive the interplay between technical finesse, mutual give-and-take and interpretation actually is. Listeners will experience talented young musicians making their first appearances in Heidelberg, musicians who, if the last few years are anything to go by, will carve out a place for themselves on the podiums of the world as soloists and chamber musicians. Subsequently, the grant recipients will also be figuring in the Standpoints concerts.
