From January 23 to 26, 2025, the 20th anniversary of the Heidelberger Frühling Streichquartettfest was dedicated to the work of the important contemporary composer Helmut Lachenmann, whose music was juxtaposed with works by Béla Bartók and Ludwig van Beethoven. With the five international string quartets Opus13, Kuss Quartett, Quatuor Diotima, Quartett HANA and Fabrik Quartet, exciting workshops with Oliver Wille, violinist of the Kuss Quartett and professor of string chamber music, and Lucas Fels, Lachenmann expert and cellist of the Arditti Quartett, and a personal discussion with Lachenmann himself, the audience experienced four days full of intense string quartet art.
The day before, the 7th edition of the Irene Steels-Wilsing Foundation competition took place, in which the young quartet Animato Quartet won first prize.
The next edition of the Streichquartettfest will take place from January 22 to 25, 2026.
