“Away from Home” was the title we gave to the 2017 Heidelberger Frühling festival. It was a motto for the first part of a festival trilogy on ideas central to the Enlightenment. How do we respond to otherness, how can we practise tolerance in our dealings with those who live differently, think differently, or simply are different? In 2018 we took a look at ourselves. What makes us different? This is not an easy question. We are Germans, Europeans, denizens of Western culture. In short, we are children of the Enlightenment.
