Freisam – A performance about human striving, searching and longing

Want to be free, for your own art? The Classic Scouts explored this artistic ideal together with pianist and concert designer Hanni Liang and young dancers from Heidelberg in the "Freisam" project. The result was a performance of music, text and movement that traced a diverse society and was performed as part of the Musikfestival 2024.

Since the Classic Scouts were founded in 2008, several generations of music-loving young people have set up countless exciting projects, organized concert introductions and school workshops and enriched the festival programmes with their own activities. In the summer of 2023, they toured Heidelberg schools with concerts and community piano workshops. In the 2023 edition of the Heidelberger Frühling Musikfestival, the group created an online listening experience, short films and an installative performance on the composer György Ligeti as part of the Scouting Ligeti project and thus became part of the nationwide ARD Week of Music. In 2022, the Classic Scouts performed in the "Get out of the Cage" workshop with the Frank Dupree Trio, acted as presenters for the new "SPRINGboard" concert series, organized a concert evening together with pianist Hanni Liang and were involved in the organization of children's and family concerts and the re:start district concerts.

In 2015, Heidelberger Frühling was awarded an ECHO Klassik for the "Classic Scouts" in the category promoting young talent.
