A new work for Igor Levit! The latest composition commission of the Heidelberger Frühling, sponsored by Dietrich Götze, has been awarded to the US composer and pianist William Bolcom, born in 1938. A student of Darius Milhaud and Olivier Messiaen, among others, Bolcom is a Grammy Award winner, a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for Music, and a recipient of the National Medal of the Arts awarded by the President of the United States. The new work - William Bolcom's 2nd Piano Concerto - is dedicated to Igor Levit, who will also perform the solo part at the premiere in the auditorium of the New University of Heidelberg. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra, perennial Orchestra in Residence of the Heidelberger Frühling, will be conducted by Elim Chan at the world premiere.
