In the Lied SLAM, it is not the singers who compete against each other, but those who composed the songs: Some of the most popular poems of Goethe and Heine, Eichendorff or Rückert have been set to music several times. Composers like Schubert, Schumann, Wolf, Richard Strauss and others resorted to the same verses as their colleagues before them. Direct comparison shows how fundamentally different the musical associations, tonalities, and moods are. More formative than the text are apparently the personal style of the composers or the harmonic language of the respective time. The Klangkollektiv Düsseldorf, the formation of two singers and their pianist founded in 2018, has already come up with some original approaches to the classical song and opera repertoire - including a »Christmas Oratorio« in minimal instrumentation adapted to lockdown conditions or witty explorations of Mozart or Richard Strauss. In the art song SLAM, the audience will get to know the subtle differences between parallel settings. At the end, they will be allowed to give their own rating. Whether modern, classical or romantic, whether dramatic or lyrical: the people in the hall decide who deserves the honor!
