Capella de la Torre

It was an act of cultural warfare that took place 400 years ago: The "Palatine Library", the "Bibliotheca Palatina", which had been kept in the Heiliggeistkirche in Heidelberg since the 15th century, was taken away in 1623 after the conquest of the Protestant Electoral Palatinate by the Catholic League and incorporated into the Biblioteca Vaticana in Rome. Among the looted books were also many music manuscripts and music prints, about which we are well informed, among other things, by an inventory compiled for Elector Ludwig V in 1544. The concert of the Capella de la Torre recalls the beginning of the Thirty Years' War through sacred and secular pieces from this environment. Works by Jacob Arcadelt, Arnold von Bruck, Josquin Desprez, Sebastian Ochsenkun, Ludwig Senfl and others will be heard at various places in the nave.
The concert will be accompanied by a discussion about the eventful history of the Bibliotheca Palatina with Katharina Bäuml, Dr. Vincenzo Petracca (Citykirche pastor) and Prof. Dr. Christoph Flamm (Musicology Department of the University of Heidelberg).
