The Greek-British-German trio is not only working on a complete recording of all 46 piano trios by Joseph Haydn, it has also commissioned a good number of composers to write short counterparts to the master's works, including Patricia Kopatchinskaja and Olli Mustonen. Haydn's so-called "Gypsy Trio" in G major – the Presto finale is written "a l'Ongarese" – is taken by the Trio Gaspard as an occasion for a folkloristic excursion to Poland and Hungary. In contrast, the main work of the program is completely filled with the songlike intimacy of German Romanticism: Schumann's strikingly friendly F major Trio from 1847.
